We-ell, I know I promised pictures of my New Improved Super Fabulous Studio... but it's not so fabulous yet... I have been using it, though! We have had an unusually snowy winter (ew) but that has made for LOTS of lovely sewing machine time! I've been sewing constantly!

And, as for the gorgeous pictures this time, don't get used to photos of my stuff looking so extra fabulous... as I mentioned in the last post, my lovely lovely Kristin came to take pictures of our little family. She made us look really good! She can do the same for you... check out her site! She's as sweet as she is talented!

E is sporting her "Ruby" riding hood cape... isn't that button FUN?! Fit for a walk to grandma's in a magic wood.

A few pictures

As promised, pictures of a few of the things I had been working on for the wedding Nov. 1 - both of the *lovely* flower girls wore blue silk. I started with an Ottobre pattern from the Winter 6/2008 issue (Lingonberry) and changed/added a few things. I thought the tinies looked really really sweet!

I made a dress for myself, too, but as of yet, no pictures exist! Sad, yes. The wedding photographer took some of course (love love LOVED HER), but she's still working her magic with the photos... I'm so anxious to see them!! Promise to share, copyright permitting... sure do hope to show you a good picture of the dress! It was my first ever project using my new dress form, and I thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Hot Mess

Remember being, maybe 13 or so, and thinking you're just too weird and ugly and nobody could ever love you? (Anyone?) And remember how your mom would smooth your hair and tell you you're the prettiest girl in the world, and nobody is really even worthy of you yet?

Creatively, I feel 13 again quite often, but I'm kinda growing out of it, just like my hair-smoothing pal Angie promised I would. (And it means a lot, coming from an artist like this.) So, as I was kinda apologizing for my (well, let's face it) HACK "studio"... the area between the front door and the back of my sofa into which I've crammed my sewing machine, fabric, beads and everything else art related that I have collected over the past decade or so... she pretty much told me to shut up and embrace it. Name it something fabulous. Celebrate the weirdness. So.

Welcome to Studio Behind the Davenport.

Or something. But we both decided davenport is an extremely under-utilised term. Yes, I'm stretching the def a bit.

The huz and I have been painting, and the studio is a much cheerier shade (sunshine yellow!) and I'm ready to get serious about setting up my workspace. My armed-forces veteran, childbirth educator, artist, supermama friend - yeah, she blows my mind, too - is coming Tuesday to put me through de-clutter boot camp... wish me luck. Since Behind the Davenport is where everything got dumped during Project: Paint, I'm gonna need it.

Here's what it looks like today... can't wait to show you what it looks like Tuesday after Amy leaves!

okay, this is ridiculous

After a disgraceful break of - well, I'm not even going to count the months - the thought of creating another post became increasingly terrifying and so I decided to just do it. Silly. Get it over with. This will not be a momentous post (sorry) but I have been creating, so little by little, I'll be posting pictures of the things I've been working on over the past *gulp* year or so. There, I said it. Ew.

In brief: sewing has been my obsession, but I've also had more Good Foods work and a few other graphic projects. Stay tuned! I'll try to sneak a few photos up every few days or so. Thanks for your patience... and know I'd rather have a cup of tea with you than be sitting at my computer!

Think I'll kick it off with a few wedding invites...

A custom, fabric-inspired background. The round design is used elsewhere in the wedding as a monogram.

A design that wasn't chosen for an actual wedding, but I really really loved it, so thought I'd share. The background photography, btw, is my lovely sister's. (Check her out - she's working on setting up her shop: www.wharrison.etsy.com)

Another beach wedding! No complaints here since I'm on the guest list! Actually, even better... in the ceremony :) My own photo in the background on this one.

(This would be a great place to segue into some sewing projects, but I need to finish my dress for the wedding first!)

Phew! It's been a while!

Finally, school is finished for now (what a semester...) and the creative juices are starting to trickle again. Here's what I've been up to - more invitations and a couple of "eco" bag designs for my favorite little health food store, Good Foods Grocery.

First, the invitation for my sweet baby Evelyn's 2nd birthday party... an Easter egg hunt! Little tiny friends everywhere - what FUN!

Next, a custom invitation: a friend was throwing a meet-the-bride party, and since the bride was oh-so-fabulous, it was only natural to have invitations made just for her. What a fun assignment! (And I hear the bride was pretty tickled.)

This is a logo I created for a local not-for-profit organization, Youth Life Foundation of Richmond, to use for their annual fund raising gala. It was used for invitations, tickets and other related items. A great organization helping children in Richmond - check it out.

Another baby shower invitation. This time for my little nephew, Liam Aaron!

And finally, I had the total honor of designing one of my dear friend's wedding invitations. A spontaneous affair with family and a few friends, on the beach in North Carolina. How romantic!

I guess I've been pretty busy after all. Promise not to go so long between posts next time! Enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day... time to fire up the grill. Mmmm.

Baby Shower Invitation

My friend is having a baby girl sometime in May, and my friends and I are hosting a shower for her. I designed this invitation based on some of her favorite colors... I loved the breezy, fresh, warm feeling of sweet tiny little clothes drying in the sunshine!

I really liked designing this stationary. I'm planning to do more for my etsy.com store, so keep checking back!

Well, it's official... I have my brand new shiny business cards, a fresh blog, and some really fun projects under my belt! Welcome to Cheveux Rouge, my blog about whatever I've been up to creatively.

About those fun projects: I have helped my friend Amy get her look together for her new business, Eden's Garden. She's a childbirth educator, and I am so excited for her as she's getting her business up and running. It was an absolute blast to work with her on designing her business cards & her flyer!

I also did a card for her her mom, Becky for her business, Beck's River Rags - also a great little business! Look under the "Friends & Favorites" tab on the left to check out both of their sites.
